Same-Day Emergency Dentist in Exton, PA: What to Do in a Dental Emergency

The first 30 minutes can save your tooth — and save you thousands

A dental emergency can strike without warning. A cracked tooth at dinner, sudden swelling on a weekend, or a child’s tooth knocked out during sports. What you do in the first 30 minutes can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Knocked-Out Tooth: Time is critical. Pick the tooth up by the crown (never the root), gently rinse it, and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it in milk or saliva and get to us within 30 minutes.

Cracked or Fractured Tooth: Rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side. Even hairline cracks can worsen quickly if left untreated.

Severe Toothache: Persistent, throbbing pain often signals an infection or abscess. Rinse with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain relief, but see a dentist the same day. Untreated infections can spread.

Swelling or Abscess: Facial swelling, fever, or a pimple-like bump on the gums indicates a serious infection that needs immediate attention.

Lost Crown or Filling: Keep the restoration if you can find it. Apply dental cement or sugar-free gum as a temporary cover and call us right away.

Why Same-Day Matters

Waiting days or weeks to address a dental emergency often turns a simple fix into a complex (and expensive) one. A small crack can become a root canal. An untreated infection can spread to the jaw or bloodstream. At Whiteland Dental, we reserve emergency slots every day so you never have to wait in pain.

What to Expect When You Call

Call 610-873-4003 and let us know it’s an emergency. We’ll triage your situation over the phone, give you immediate care instructions, and get you into the chair as quickly as possible — often within the hour. Our office is equipped with 3D imaging and CEREC same-day crown technology, so many emergencies can be fully resolved in a single visit.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

Wear a mouthguard during sports. Avoid chewing ice, hard candy, and popcorn kernels. Keep up with regular checkups so small issues are caught before they become urgent. And save our number in your phone — you’ll be glad you did.
